What are the types of pcb boards according to the base material

According to the classification of the base material:flexible circuit board, rigid circuit board and rigid-flex board.

1.Flerigid PCB boardxible PCB board(flexible board)

Flexible board is a printed circuit board made of flexible substrates. Its advantage is that it can be bent and facilitates the assembly of electrical components. FPC has been widely used in aerospace, military, mobile communications, laptop computers, computer peripherals, PDAs, digital cameras and other fields or products.

2.Rigid circuit board

It is made of paper base (usually used for single-sided) or glass cloth base (usually used for double-sided and multilayer), pre-impregnated with phenolic or epoxy resin, and laminated with copper foil on one or both sides of the surface and then laminated and cured. This kind of PCB copper clad board, we call it a rigid board. Then made into PCB, we call it rigid PCB. A rigid board is a printed circuit board made of a rigid substrate that is not easy to bend and has a certain degree of toughness. Its advantage is that it can provide a certain support for the electronic components attached to it. 

3.Rigid-flex PCB board (rigid-flex board)

"Rigid-flex board" refers to a printed circuit board that contains one or more rigid areas and flexible areas, which is composed of a rigid board and a flexible board laminated together. The advantage of the rigid-flex board is that it can not only provide the supporting function of the rigid printed board, but also has the bending characteristics of the flexible board, which can meet the needs of three-dimensional assembly.


What is High Tg PCB and the advantages of using High Tg PCB?


High Tg printed circuit board when the temperature rises to a certain area, the substrate will be from the "glassy" to "rubbery", the temperature at this time is called the board's glass transition temperature (Tg). In other words, Tg is the highest temperature at which a substrate can remain rigid.


What are the specific types of PCB boards?


They are categorized by grade level from bottom to top as follows:


94HB - 94VO - 22F - CEM-1 - CEM-3 - FR-4


Details are as follows:


94HB: Ordinary cardboard, not fireproof (the lowest grade material, mold punching, can not do power board)


94V0: flame retardant cardboard (mold punching)


22F: Single-sided half-glass fiberboard (die-punched)


CEM-1: single-sided fiberglass board (must be computer drilled, not die-punched)


CEM-3: double-sided half fiberglass board (in addition to double-sided cardboard belongs to the lowest end of the double-sided board materials, simple)


Double-sided board can use this material, cheaper than FR-4 will be 5 ~ 10 yuan / square meter)

Circuit boards must be flame-resistant, at a certain temperature can not be burned, only softened. This temperature point is called the glass transition temperature (Tg point), this value is related to the dimensional stability of the PCB board.


What is a high Tg PCB circuit board and the use of high Tg PCB advantages of high Tg printed circuit board when the temperature rises to a certain area, the substrate will be from the "glassy" into the "rubbery", this time the temperature is called the glassy state of the board.


The temperature is called the glass transition temperature of the board (Tg). In other words, Tg is the maximum temperature (℃) at which a substrate can remain rigid. That is to say, ordinary PCB substrate materials at high temperatures, not only produce softening, deformation, melting and other phenomena, but also in the mechanical and electrical characteristics of the sharp decline (I think we do not want to see the classification of pcb boards to see their own products in this case).


General Tg of the board for more than 130 degrees,high Tg is generally greater than 170 degrees, medium Tg about more than 150 degrees.


Usually Tg ≥ 170 ℃ printed circuit board, called high Tg printed circuit board.


The Tg of the substrate to improve the heat resistance of the printed board,moisture resistance, chemical resistance, resistance to stability and other characteristics will improve and improve the TG value, the higher the temperature resistance of the board the better performance, especially in the lead-free process, high Tg application is more.


High Tg refers to high heat resistance.With the rapid development of the electronics industry, especially the computer as a representative of the electronic products, to the high functionality, high multilayer development,PCB substrate materials need to be more heat-resistant as an important guarantee. SMT, CMT as a representative of the emergence and development of high-density mounting technology,so that the PCB in the small aperture, fine line, thin, more and more inseparable from the substrate of high heat resistance support.




Therefore,the difference between general FR-4 and FR-4 with high Tg is that in the hot state, especially after moisture absorption, the mechanical strength of the material is very high.


Heat,the material's mechanical strength, dimensional stability, adhesion, water absorption, thermal decomposition, thermal expansion and other differences in various situations, high Tg products are obviously better than ordinary PCB substrate materials.
