Beijing, September 7, 2021-Qorvo®, Inc. (Nasdaq: QRVO), a leading provider of RF solutions for mobile applications, infrastructure, aerospace, and defense applications, announced that Murata will launch with Qorvo IC With a small ultra-wideband technology (UWB) module, PCB circuit board, the size is only 10.5x8.3x1.44 mm. The module has features such as high accuracy, high reliability and low power consumption to ensure that compact battery-powered IoT devices operate as efficiently and economically as possible.

The Type 2AB UWB + Bluetooth® low-energy (BLE) connection module uses short-range radio frequency technology. PCB technology can be used for various applications that must achieve accurate detection, including ensuring social distancing in the workplace to minimize the spread of new coronary pneumonia .

For manufacturing engineers who develop advanced products for the IoT market, this system-in-package module is ideal. It contains three antennas (two UWB for arrival phase difference function and one for BLE). The module has high-precision position detection functions and powerful security functions, especially suitable for medical/wearable, industrial/commercial and home/consumer industries. The Type 2AB module can easily implement positioning applications such as asset tracking, indoor navigation, smart lighting, digital payment, and finding nearby devices. At the same time, it is also suitable for applications such as smart factories, POI/indoor marketing, hospitals, museums, warehouses and underground construction projects. Compared with systems based on Wi-Fi™/Bluetooth or GPS technology, UWB modules have significant advantages. Facts have proved that the former is not suitable for indoor applications due to its reliance on satellite signals.

Compared with the on-board chip design, the UWB module with integrated Qorvo IC can reduce the installation area by approximately 75%. The resin molded surface mount module with built-in Nordic MCU can also increase design flexibility and shorten product development time (for example: no need to prepare an external MCU for customers). Other features include an excellent storage unit (256kB RAM and 1Mb flash memory), a 3-axis motion detection sensor and a 250nA deep sleep mode, and it can operate at a temperature of -40°C-85°C and a voltage of 2.5V-3.6V.

Toshifumi Oida, Senior Director of Murata’s Communication Module Department, said: “Due to the vigorous development of industries such as smartphones, Internet of Things, and smart cities, the UWB market is expected to grow by approximately 30% in the next few years. Our highly reliable ultra-compact Type 2AB module has Excellent EMI performance. This is a very good solution for product developers who want to use pioneering high-density surface mount technology based on RF design in this market."

Paul Costigan, Senior President of Qorvo UWB IoT Solutions, said: "Qorvo leverages our ultra-wideband expertise to support high-performance solutions. We can provide breakthrough technologies and manufacturing scale for integrated modules, such as the one from Murata, the world's leading electronic component manufacturer. Modules, thereby accelerating the deployment of UWB, triggering a new wave of innovation. Companies will be able to easily add enhanced location and distance sensing functions to promote business optimization, improve workflow efficiency, and improve smartphones, automobiles, consumer, and Security for applications such as the Industrial Internet of Things.

Bjørn Åge Brandal, vice president of sales and marketing for Nordic Semiconductor Asia Pacific, said: "We are very pleased to cooperate with Murata on this new UWB module. This product combines Murata's advantages in highly integrated SiP module packaging with Qorvo and Nordic Semiconductor's long-term cooperation results in UWB and Bluetooth low energy solutions are integrated. This compact module takes full advantage of the high integration and computing power of the Nordic nRF52840 system-on-chip, so customers only need a few PCB external components. UWB ranging products that realize wireless connection, so as to ensure a small footprint and low power consumption."
