An IC connector is a device that connects electronic devices to other electronic devices. It consists of one or more parts, including a plug for inserting cables, a bayonet for connecting pieces, and a fixed part for connecting pieces. One end of the connector is the free placement end, and the other end is the forcing end. Insert the plug of the cable into the connector, insert the connecting tab into the connector, and insert the fixed part into the connector. An electrical connection is formed between the connector and the electronic device, thereby achieving the effect of connection.

How to connect an IC to a PCB?

How to install an IC on a PCB? It is generally divided into THT Through-hole technology and SMT Surface-mount technology,

1. THT method: First insert the IC pins into the installation holes of the PCB, and then weld and fix them.

2. SMT does not need to be welded directly on the surface in this way. Currently, SMT is the mainstream technology, especially for consumer electronics products, most of which use SMT

Advantages of SMT

SMT components are lightweight, small in size, and have high reliability. Their installation is more stable, which can effectively reduce the impact of parasitic inductance and capacitance on them and improve the high-frequency characteristics of the circuit. As they only need to be installed on the surface, this operation is very convenient, conducive to automated production and improves work efficiency.

In real life, there are still many PCBs that use THT. Although SMT is beneficial for automated production, the process is more complex than THT, with lower costs and low consumption. The requirements for electronic products are not very strict, and for some processes that cannot be achieved by SMT, THT needs to be used, resulting in a wider range of product applications. In summary, SMT and THT each have their advantages. Nowadays, in electronic processing plants, connecting ICs to PCBs can be mixed.

Steps for soldering IC

1) Clean and fix the fixed PCB circuit board in the same way as the two-terminal electronic devices.

2) Select the solder layer on the outermost edge of one side of the IC wire diagram.

3) Clamp the IC with medical tweezers and place it on the wiring diagram of the IC on the PCB circuit board. Fix it in place at the pointed position, and then use a soldering iron to heat the pre-soldered layer until the soldering wire melts before soldering the wire. During the electric welding operation, the position of the IC can be adjusted reasonably, and the electric chromium iron can be removed in the future.

Attention: Do not touch the IC at this time. After using medical tweezers to fix the IC, do not move it, otherwise, it may cause electronic device wires to shift and unsuccessful welding.

4) Check the alignment of the two ends of the wires. All wires of the IC can be aligned with the two ends of the solder layer on the wiring diagram. If the two ends are not aligned, they must be welded again to align the two ends.

5) After aligning the two ends of the wire, weld the wire diagonally on the welded wire, which can prevent the IC from moving and causing wire displacement when welding other wires.

6) When welding other wires, it is necessary to use a high-power magnifying glass, preferably a small desk lamp with a high-power magnifying glass. Due to the need for hands-on operation during welding, pointed electrochromic iron is used to weld the IC wires one by one.

7) Check the welding status of the wires.

8) Disposal method for connecting pins: Due to the accumulation of IC wires, it is difficult to avoid connecting the two wires during welding. In this case, a tin-absorbing tape must be used to solve the problem. The specific steps are to place the solder strip on the soldering position, use a soldering iron to heat the solder strip until the solder wire melts and is pulled away by the solder strip, and the soldered wires are separated. In the future, the soldered wires will be subjected to practical welding operations.

9) Check the spot welding again to ensure that it meets the standards and there is no adhesive short circuit fault condition.

IC connection is the most important part of electronic devices, which can undertake the functions of operation and storage. The application scope of integrated circuits includes electronic devices in the medical industry, military industry, civilian use, and so on.
